Who Knows What?

A new website is needed. The goal would be to bring together those findings about the percentages of Americans who think we fought the Revolutionary War against Mexico or Japan, and the ones who point to the map at what they think is Iraq but is in fact — gulp — Australia, plus the ones who don’t know the Pacific from the Atlantic, and all those other grim bits.

Not all of the site should be about grim things, though. Right now, I want to know the percentage of Americans who know html coding when they see it. More specifically, I’d like to know how many high school students recognize it. In fact, it would be helpful to know the percentage of h.s. students who know the code and who might read my as-yet-unpublished book. I’m working on a key plot point and have to decide if the coding  stays or goes. For now, it’s going, but with regrets. When in doubt…

About Carolyn

I live in Washington, D.C., write, teach, try to eat the requisite fruits and veggies daily, and avoid caffeine after 2 pm. I wonder about things a lot -- like why "pretty" means "pretty" and "not so much" and if I can ever perfect the single-portion, no-knead, daily baguette and how many people realize that Beau Brummel had a lot to do with our desire to bathe daily -- those of us who do in fact "take the daily."
