Memory Making

People may come to DC to visit the places we expect tourists to see — museums and monuments aplenty! But the city has lots of special events as well, and the latest one is — cupcakes.

Two sisters opened a small cupcake store in Georgetown over a year ago. The publicity was good, and we residents marveled at how they carried supplies down narrow stairs and then ascended a few hours later with an incredible assortment of cupcakes. The business venture caught the wave of good timing, cupcake-wise, and now the highly successful Georgetown Cupcake has moved to the corner of 33rd and M, a much larger bakery. People line up for hours — literally — to stand in line with other people standing in line and waiting to purchase cupcakes. I haven’t gone yet, but it seems pretty sweet.

About Carolyn

I live in Washington, D.C., write, teach, try to eat the requisite fruits and veggies daily, and avoid caffeine after 2 pm. I wonder about things a lot -- like why "pretty" means "pretty" and "not so much" and if I can ever perfect the single-portion, no-knead, daily baguette and how many people realize that Beau Brummel had a lot to do with our desire to bathe daily -- those of us who do in fact "take the daily."
